Successful petition drives to obtain signatures supporting the establishment of Choose Life license plates in Illinois were effective to demonstrate strong support for these plates in our state.

 

Adoption is a positive choice

Recently, the Donaldson Institute and the Dave Thomas Foundation released a survey that shows that American have a very favorable impression of adoption.   40% of Americans have considered adoption and 60% have been personally touched by adoption.  The number of people seeking to adopt children makes every child a wanted child.  Many people involved with adoption are supporting Choose Life plates.


Is Illinois Behind Other States?

As of May 2008, 19 states have approved Choose Life specialty license plates.  Choose Life plates have been purchased in 17 of these states, with Florida having the most on the road.  The concept of Choose Life license plates originated in Florida, where over 5.5 million dollars have already been raised to support adoption.  

Choose Life plates are currently being sold in 17 states.  The plates will soon be available in Missouri and South Carolina.  Approval of Choose Life plates has been upheld on appeal in Missouri, orders can now be placed, and plates will become available when 200 orders have been received.  Plate production may begin in South Carolina by September, 2008.

If the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals issues a favorable ruling, Illinois could become the 20th state to approve Choose Life license plates.  Efforts to gain approval for Choose Life plates are ongoing in 17 states, including Illinois, leaving only 14 states where no effort on behalf of Choose Life plates has been initiated.
